DHAKA, Bangladesh - Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday sought Japan's and the Japan International Cooperation Agency's (JICA) assistance in achieving Bangladesh's goal of becoming a developed nation by 2041.
"I hope Japan and JICA will join us in achieving our goal of becoming a developed nation by 2041," she said.
The prime minister stated this in a video broadcast during the 50th anniversary of the Bangladesh-JICA cooperation.
JICA's financial assistance portfolio to Bangladesh has grown from $10.6 million in commodity grant aid in 1971-72 to $28 billion today, according to PM Hasina.
Hasina stated that Bangladesh is moving forward to realize the Father of the nation's dream of transforming Bangladesh into a developed country.
"Bangladesh has already been recognized for transitioning to a developing country in 2026," she added.
