DHAKA, Bangladesh - In a tragic incident that shook the Rohingya camp at Ukhiya in Cox's Bazar, a group of unidentified assailants brutally hacked a Rohingya leader, Ayub Mohammad.
The horrifying event unfolded Tuesday afternoon within the confines of Balukhali Camp 18, situated in the Palongkhali union of the upazila.
Ayub Mohammad, a 36-year-old sub-majhi (community leader), had been an unwavering voice against the rising tide of criminal activities in Block H/56 of the same camp.
His relentless efforts to suppress crimes within the Arsa camp in Cox's Bazar had made him a target.
Amir Zafar, Commander (Additional DIG) of the Armed Police Battalion-8, confirmed the grim news, suggesting that Ayub Mohammad may have fallen victim to members of a group deeply involved in various criminal activities within the camp.
The community mourns the loss of a courageous leader who stood up against the miscreants plaguing their lives.
Hossain Ali, a resident of Balukhali Camp-18, attests to Ayub Mohammad's courage in confronting the criminal elements that had previously threatened him.
"Several criminal groups are very active in Arsa camp. I am sure they are behind his murder," he added.
As authorities launch an operation to apprehend the perpetrators, the camp remains on edge, fearing the influence of the criminal groups that continue to cast a dark shadow over their lives.
