DHAKA, Bangladesh - Md Shahriar Alam, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, has stated that the European Union's decision not to send a full-fledged election observation mission will not affect the acceptability of Bangladesh's upcoming general election.
On Thursday, the state minister responded to a reporter's question at the Foreign Service Academy following an event on Bangladesh-Vietnam relations.
Earlier, Election Commission Secretary Md Jahangir Alam told the media that the EU had informed the commission that it would not send a full-fledged election observation mission due to financial constraints.
According to Shahriar Alam, the EU has not informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of its decision.
"We will notify you as soon as we are informed." The absence of European Union observers will not affect the election's outcome. At the same time, there will be no effect on the election's acceptance."
"Previous elections have shown the same thing. Today's response is as follows. "We will provide more information as soon as we receive official notification," he said.
The EU did not observe the previous two elections held in 2014 and 2018.
However, it dispatched a pre-election observation mission in July to assess the situation.
The EU made its final decision after receiving the mission's report.
