New Delhi [India], April 21 (ANI): Former Pakistan head coach Jason Gillespie and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are involved in a financial dispute after his departure from the role in December last year, according to ESPNcricinfo.

The former Australian pacer told ESPNcricinfo that he was owed money for the work he had done and accused the Pakistan board of several breaches of his contract. In turn, the PCB accused Gillespie of not providing the board with a four-month notice period as specified in the contract.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Gillespie contacted the PCB to settle the outstanding payments owed to him. According to him, the payments include bonuses promised for leading Pakistan to a Test series win over England in October last year and a 2-1 ODI series victory over Australia in November 2024. Gillespie has referred the matter to the International Cricket Council (ICC), although it is unclear whether the ICC has the remit to intervene in the matter.

Gillespie took charge of Pakistan's ODI side on an interim basis after Gary Kirsten resigned six months into his tenure due to differences with the board. According to ESPNcricinfo, the 50-year-old had specific written assurances from the PCB regarding the financial remuneration, which had not yet materialised.

Following Gillespie's interview with Pakpassion, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) issued a statement to refute the claims made by a former head coach on the non-payment of his dues. On Sunday, the PCB spokesman stated that the former head coach abruptly left his position without giving a four-month notice period, a clear breach of the contractual terms. The coaching contract explicitly mentioned a notice period applicable to both parties, and the coach was fully aware of it.

Last month, Gillespie took a jibe at Pakistan's interim head coach Aaqib Javed for undermining him during his stint with the Men in Green and running a campaign 'behind the scenes' to take their role across all formats.

According to ESPNcricinfo, the relationship between Gillespie and the board had broken down long before he handed in his resignation. Two months before his departure, he was removed from the selection panel. Afterwards, his role was reduced to a 'matchday strategist.' (ANI)
