Kochi (Keralam) [India], April 1 (ANI): Ahead of the upcoming assembly polls, Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary MA Baby on Wednesday said that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) under Keralam Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan rewrote the history of political experience of the state by advancing from 91 seats to 99.
'Five years ago, in the Kerala State Assembly Elections, people were generally feeling that the Kerala pattern of changing the government once in five years was what was going to happen. But LDF under Pinarayi Vijayan rewrote the history of recent political experience, and not only did LDF win elections, but LDF improved its position from 91 seats it went up to 99,' Baby told ANI.
He praised the work of the current government and said that remarkable achievements have been gained in providing social security measures, expanding them for the poorest of the poor.
'One short of a century, like what had happened in some of the cricket matches, happened with Sanju Samson. During the last 10 years, remarkable achievements have been gained in providing social security measures, expanding them for the poorest of the poor, and developing infrastructure,' the CPI(M) general secretary said.
Baby also noted Keralam's unique standing in maintaining communal harmony, expressing confidence that these successes will pave the way for another LDF victory.
'I do not want to go into the details, but I would say Kerala during the last five years has become the first and only state in the entire country where absolute poverty, extreme poverty could be eradicated. This has been recognised by the NITI Aayog also. Then, one more point, renowned public intellectuals Professor Amartya Sen and Professor Romila Thapar, very recently, while participating in a seminar online, stated one point in common that Kerala is the only state where there is no communal riot, and there is no bloodshed due to communal polarisation. So all these factors, I wish and hope, would come for ensuring another victory of the LDF,' he added.
The Keralam Assembly elections will be held in a single phase on April 9, with counting scheduled for May 4. (ANI)
