Sydney (Australia), May 28: The Dr Kaushik Dasgupta-led Sutton-Derby Cricket Academy is creating pathways for young cricketers to pursue international opportunities and professional growth in the sport. Established in October 2023, the academy currently has 20 selected students undergoing structured cricket training and development programs.
The academy was founded with the objective of taking cricket training to the next level by offering young players international exposure and opportunities to learn from established cricket personalities across the world. The initiative aims to prepare talented players for Premier Division club cricket in Australia and England under the Lancashire Cricket framework, while also helping them progress towards state-level, national, and IPL opportunities.
Dr Kaushik Dasgupta, recognized as the first Bengali founder of the Premier Division Sutton-Derby Cricket Club and Academy in Australia, has had an extensive cricketing journey. His playing career includes club, state, and university cricket in India, First-Class cricket exposure, minor county cricket in England, and district and club cricket in Australia.
A notable moment in his career came when he was selected for district cricket in Australia after an unbeaten score of 149 runs against the Premier Division Prince Alfred College Cricket Club. In addition to his playing achievements, he is also a Level 2 Coach certified by Cricket Australia.
The academy is further strengthened by the association of former Indian Test cricketer and selector Subroto Banerjee, who has partnered with Dr Kaushik Dasgupta. Together, they are actively involved in identifying, training, and grooming promising young cricketers in Adelaide, Sydney, and India through the Sutton-Derby Cricket Academy network.
Academy officials believe that providing international exposure and structured guidance at an early stage can play a key role in shaping the next generation of cricketing talent.
